Privacy notice

Last updated: 15 October 2026. PollyReader is designed to collect as little as possible. This page explains exactly what is processed and why.

This website

  • No cookies, no analytics, no advertising trackers, no external fonts or scripts.
  • The site is served by Amazon CloudFront; like any web server it briefly processes your IP address to deliver the pages.
  • If you request a trial key, we store your name, e-mail address, your optional message, the language of the page and your IP address, only to send you a key and answer you. These requests are deleted automatically after 12 months, or earlier on request.

The PollyReader app

  • Text you choose to read is sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our service in the EU (Frankfurt, Germany) and converted to speech with Amazon Polly. It is never stored in readable form and never written to logs. The generated audio is cached under a one-way fingerprint for up to 60 days so that repeated text plays faster.
  • License data: your license key, a fingerprint of your computer (a one-way hash, not your hardware serial numbers), the computer name, the Windows and app versions, your IP address and the time of last use. This is needed to check your license and to prevent abuse.
  • Usage counts: the number of characters and requests per day and month, to apply your reading allowance. Not what you read.
  • On your computer, PollyReader stores its settings, an encrypted copy of your license and the audio cache in your Windows user profile. Uninstalling offers to delete them.
  • The app sends no analytics and no crash reports.

Retention and your rights

  • Usage counters are kept up to about 13 months, security events 30 days, cached audio 60 days, trial requests 12 months.
  • You can ask for access to, correction or deletion of your data at any time, and you can stop using the service by uninstalling the app and asking us to delete your license.
  • To contact us about privacy, use the trial request form with the subject "privacy" or reply to the e-mail that brought you your key.

Service providers

The service runs on Amazon Web Services (Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL) in the EU region eu-central-1. Speech is generated by Amazon Polly in the same region.
